Sausage, Tomato & Basil Pasta

A one pot meal for a hungry family that you will make over and over.


Ingredients:

1 box of spaghetti or penne

1Lb - ground sausage - 50/50 ratio sweet and hot Italian

1/2 cup chopped basil

2 cups jar marinara

2-3 oz of goat cheese or mozzarella

1 yellow or red pepper - sliced or chunks

1 yellow onion sliced

1 cup milk

Optional - cherry tomatoes

Olive Oil

salt & black pepper


Directions:


Get a pot of water boiling for your pasta.


In another large pot on medium heat add a small amount of olive oil. When hot add the ground sausage.


Cook the sausage for 3-4 minutes. Break the sausage into crumbles using a spatula or a wooden spoon.


Add next the onions & peppers, as well a good pinch of salt & black pepper.


Cook until the onions are softened and the sausage is nicely browned.


Add the marinara next and cook for 2 minutes.


Add the milk and basil. Stir gently.


Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer the sauce for 5-10 minutes.


Drop into lightly salted boiling water your selected pasta.


When the pasta is done add into the sauce and stir. If using cherry tomatoes add next and allow the heat to penetrate the cherry tomatoes.


Finish with your selected cheese then serve.
