Pasta, Rice, Potatoes & more - Dishes for your Family in a time of Crisis.

We are experiencing a dramatic shift in our daily lives as never before, except maybe during WWII....and at the heart of this crisis is an increasing fear about possible future food shortages.

Americans have for decades enjoyed meals that have a very high ratio of protein vs. carbs. Animal protein especially. Know that most countries have daily diets that have a reverse ratio of carb to protein - and they live long heathy lives.

It may be essential that you and your family learn very quickly how to make and enjoy meals prepared with a significantly reduced amount of animal protein.

I am someone who for health reasons needed to learn how to enjoy a daily diet with no more than 40-48 grams of animal protein each day. In ounces, depending on the protein, this converts to for example a 6 oz can of tuna equaling 40 grams... and a 4 oz hamburger patty equaling 28 ounces.

So - it is easy to see that such reductions in protein are dramatically less than what most Americans typically enjoy in a day.

I have learned to depend on high quality free range eggs as my main protein followed by lamb, chicken and fish.

For the duration of our current national emergency crisis; I highly encourage that you become very comfortable using a variety of frozen vegetables, eggs, rice or pasta for most meals with animal protein making up less than 20% of your meal.

If you love bread consider maybe getting a bread maker and begin to enjoy making homemade bread. Forget rules, diets and the hysteria on carbs for a while.

This is not a time for any of that nonsense.

The best part of eating more clean carbs might be as it was for me that it helps you sleep much better at night.

On my site here I have several really good pasta dishes for you to consider. All of them can be modified to incorporate an egg or 1-3 oz of meat.

The trick for taste is to always try to use good quality olive oil and at times a little butter. This can make a reduced protein meal taste very filling and satisfying.

**One of the most versatile ways to adjust meals with less protein is to make a fried rice. The sky is the limit on how and what ingredient as to use. Also soups are great as are vegetable casseroles.

Never doubt the varied and very nutritious ways to use potatoes and onions as the base for any meal when animal protein is reduced.

Blessings!
