Monte Cristo Sandwich

Updated: May 7, 2020

I will admit - I am not a huge sandwich fan. I rarely eat sandwiches except the occasional tuna sandwich I share with Tom.

Lately, I have been craving a sandwich.. and I wanted it to be a gooey yummy sandwich. Not a boring throw it together in 2 seconds kind of thing. I decided to try my hand at a Monte Cristo - my way. Which meant fast - but still really good.

Here is how I did it.

Ingredients:

2 slices of deli ham - Boar’s Head

2 slices of deli turkey - Boar’s Head

2 slices of Gouda

1/2 TBL - Mayonnaise

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 TBL soft butter

touch of olive oil

cracked black pepper

2 slices of David’s White Bread

Directions:

I heated a little olive oil in a non stick pan on medium high heat.

I mixed the mayo and mustard together and then added a little black pepper.

I spread a thick layer of the mayo mix on both pieces of bread.

Then layered the ham, turkey and cheese.

I did a thick layer of the softened butter on the top side side of the bread - placing the buttered side down in the pan first.

I lightly pressed the sandwich and lowered the heat to medium low.

As soon as the cheese began to melt I buttered the face up side then flipped the sandwich over. After 3 minutes the sandwich was done. A grilled cheese essentially only amped up without the hassle of a milk and egg crust.

Amazing.
